FAQs

Where are you?

Our gallery inhabits a brightly lit corner of the newly remodeled hardware store in downtown Ridgefield, Washington HERE along with Ridgefield Floral & Gifts. The building is at the corner of Pioneer Street and Main Street, kiddy corner from Overlook park. Our official address is Main Street, but the door that exclusively opens into the gallery is the entrance on Pioneer street. You can always go through the floral shop if they are open, if not, come to the Pioneer street door.

What items are for sale there?

The original work on the walls, and also a variety of reasonabley priced prints, cards, and small hand-crafted gifts. Check out what’s in stock in our shop.

Is there other things to do near by?

Yes! Ridgefield Floral & Gift is in the same building, other shops and restaurants are near by, Season’s Cafe is across the street, and so is Ridgefield’s food cart hub. There is more Art Association artists usually with work hanging in our library on Main Street, and often also adorning the walls at Bunnie’s pizza.

We are across the street from the lovely Overlook Park, just up the road from the Ridgefield waterfront, and a stone’s throw from the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge with walking trails or the Refuge “drive-through” wildlife area.

What is an artist cooperative gallery?

It’s a gallery that is artist run. Each artist pays member dues, which cover rent and operating costs for the gallery, and then the artists all have “gallery sitting” shifts throughout the month to eliminate the cost of employees manning the shop. Everyone chips in approximately the same hours , and a special group of volunteers fills in here and there when life happens.

How does an artist become a gallery member?

Just two simple steps:

1) Be a member of the Ridgefield Art Association or willing to join upon acceptance to the gallery. You can learn more about that HERE.

2) Fill out this application form. There is a lot of details on the application page that could also answer questions regarding details.

How are members chosen?

New members are voted on by the gallery management committee when there is a vacancy. The criteria we use are partly about the artist’s work specifically, and partly if that work would be a good fit in the space with everyone else’s work.

Some of the criteria could include: Does the artist have a consistent style or vibe carried through their work? Do they create work with quality materials that will last if bought by a customer? Can they adequately frame or wire original pieces so they are easier for customer to buy, take home, and hang up? Do they have a body of work large enough to be a “featured artist” for a month?

Some of these criteria can be worked on if it’s the right fit. So, don’t hold back! Just apply.

If I’m a gallery member, how much wall space do I get?

We aren’t creating a vendor space with individual little nooks and crannies with one artist per “space”. The cooperative chooses a “featured artist” for each month of the year, and those folks get a larger amount of prominent space for that month, while the rest of the cooperative brings in 3-5 pieces each (depending on the size of their work) that is complimentary to the theme or vibe of the “featured artist’s” work.

Do I hang my own work?

Only if you’re on the Curatorial Committee for the gallery. Otherwise, on our monthly art drop-off day you just need to drop off your work, sign it in, fill out a few odds and ends, and we’ll curate the show for the month.

Do you only sell 2D art?

Nope! Our members range from 2d to 3D and sometimes do both. Both hangable and pedestal ready 3D work is welcome.

Do you only sell original art?

Nope! All our members are welcome to stock a limited number of prints, cards, or if you make 3D work, small batch, hand-crafted items (for example: beautiful mugs, ceramic magnets). We are happy to discuss possible small options with 3D artists who aren’t sure how to translate their art to a smaller scale.
